Is Nascar letting you down?

Nascar is toying with the idea of adding three more teams to the chase to have a total of fifteen teams in the chase and also changing the format to have knockout rounds so bascially the top three three teams will battle for the title the last two weeks.
Ok, this is getting old. I am one of the fans who doesn't like this at all. Hell, i don't like the chase period. The Sport was built on the foundation of racing week to week and the best drive for the whole year wins well thats not happening now.
I now for a fact that Jeff Gordon would have two more Championships if the old system was still in place. I know change needs to happen but tell me how can you compare Jimmie Johnson's four title to Jeff Gordon's titles? You Can't.
Please tell me how this is suppose to work? Tell me how this isn't all about the almighty dollar? What happened to the history of the sport?
Please anybody HELP ME! understand what Nascar is doing.
