Prism Motorsports will run two teams in 2010
February 3rd 2010 17:39
Prism Motorsports will field car numbers 55 and 66 for the Daytona 500 and beyond. The plan is two have both cars race the full season. The number 55 will be driven by Michael McDowell and the 66 driven by Dave Blaney. Both cars need to qualify on speed for the first five races.
Prism Motorsports fields Toyotas. Last year Terry Labonte drove the 66 at Daytona. Labonte was guaranteed starter via a past champion’s provisional.
"We're going to race those things in," Parsons said. "We have our same alliance with MWR [Michael Waltrip Racing] that we did last year. We're going to attempt every race. We've been talking about the second car, and we solidified it in the last few weeks [because] if you're going to go anywhere and take a shot at getting in, that's the one to do it because the rewards are so great.
"We really don't have any sponsorship. We thought we were really close to having something for Dave for [Speedweeks], and it turned out they went a different direction at the 11th hour. We're still actively pursuing everything we can pursue; we have some good conversations going, but nothing imminent."
The 55 was driven by Michael Waltrip last year and finished 32nd in Owner Points but those points have been moved to the 56 for Martin Truex Jr. The 66 had Labonte drive the first race then Blaney took over and ran 30 races for the Prism team. The 66 finished 42nd in Owner Points.
With both cars needing to qualify on speed and not having sponsorship tied up for the whole year look for these teams to struggle and miss a lot of races.
